Maybe this is your first time hearing about a home reptile show or maybe your child’s best friend had a reptile show at their last birthday event. Pretty cool, right? This article is to help you know what to expect when you invite these scaley friends and their handler into your home.

The Handler

The reptile handler is skilled at working with the reptiles directly. They not only bring the reptiles to your show location, but they are the ones that will be responsible for keeping your kids safe during the show. A professional reptile handler is accustom to the unique communication system reptiles use to display mood and can help your kids handle the animals correctly. It is best to look for a handler that has worked with the show animals for at least two years and trained them personally. This enables the experience to be the safest as the handler knows each animal on a personal level and can provide the best experience to your guests.

The Arrival

Your reptile handler will arrive with each animal in a travel container. Sam of SnakesonSam uses special containers that keep the animals secure and comfortable throughout the show. Unlike most animals, reptiles feel the most secure in small dark spaces that mimic caves while traveling. Don’t be surprised if your handler shows up with a reptile in a small dark container! Weird enough, these creatures love it!

The Location

Reptiles are cold blooded and require external heat sources to help their bodies work efficiently. Too much heat, however, can be fatal to these animals if they do not have the ability to seek shade or lower temperatures to cool them off. This is why it is important to provide a shaded area for the reptiles at all times. During your show your reptile handler will have the animals in their travel containers neatly to the side of their “stage”.

Now is the time you have been waiting for…the show! During the reptile show most of the reptiles will be introduced separately. Each will be presented with their own unique facts. Depending of the age of the guest of honor and guests facts will vary. After the animal has been introduced the reptile will now be brought to each seated guest. This is when the animal will be touched and interacted with. Kids and adults alike love this part of the show because it enables the to experience exotic zoo-quality reptiles up close. Your guests can also ask the handler any specific questions during this time. Sam of SnakesonSam makes it her goal to give all her show attendees they most entertaining and educational experience while emphasizing safe reptile handling practices.

After the Show

Sam recommends that all attendees who interacted with the reptiles during the show wash their hands. All animals, including cat and dogs, can carry mild germs.
